Reasons behind Air India's flight cancellations to Israel
Due to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran, Air India has decided to cancel the flights from New Delhi to Tel Aviv.
The airline has taken this measure to consider the safety of the passengers. It has declared that it will keep monitoring the situation in Israel's capital, Tel Aviv, to schedule flights in the future.
As per Air India’s official post on their Twitter account, they have announced and stated, “In view of the ongoing situation in parts of the Middle East, we have suspended scheduled operation of our flights to and from Tel Aviv with immediate effect up to and including 08 August 2024. We are continuously monitoring the situation and are extending support to our passengers with confirmed bookings for travel to and from Tel Aviv during this period, with a one-time waiver on rescheduling and cancellation charges. The safety of our guests and crew remains our foremost priority.

Flight disruptions have also occurred within Air India in the past because of increased tension in Israel-Iran. This time, the flights that are affected at Air India and have been canceled are AI139, which was scheduled from Delhi to Tel Aviv, and AI140, which is the return flight from Tel Aviv to Delhi. Both of the flights were scheduled on Thursday, 1st August.
The next flight to Tel Aviv was scheduled for Sunday, August 4, but it has also been canceled, and Air India has not updated the rescheduling. As per the officials, further updates will be shared after August 8. You may know that Air India operates a total number of 4 flights to Tel Aviv every week, which will not continue till the situation improves in the country.
As Air India canceled flights due to Israel-Iran tensions, the disruptions have created a hassle for a number of travelers wanting to arrive at the capital city of Israel or looking forward to returning to India. Amidst this situation, the airline has stated that they will be offering rescheduling of the flights without incurring any charges.
One of their website notices reads, "Passengers having confirmed bookings for travel on these two flights will be provided with a one-time waiver on rescheduling and cancellation charges. The inconvenience caused is sincerely regretted.
Apart from Air India Canceling flights to Tel Aviv, there are more airlines on the list which has suspended flights to Tel Aviv for now, such as Germany's Lufthansa Groups, SWISS International Airlines, and a few other US and European Airlines. More Middle Eastern regions have also been affected by the tension between the two major countries, Israel and Palestine. A number of flights have been disrupted in the affected parts of these countries. Some airlines have been delayed for significant hours, or some flight operations have been suspended.
Aviation companies are actively communicating with the officials to determine when to continue flight operations and support the passengers who have booked with them. Prior to further notice, it has been advised not to make plans to visit the affected countries.
