Air India and Indigo are the two major airlines with the highest share of domestic flights; most people prefer to fly with these carriers as they are low-cost carriers, although Air India also offers meals without additional charges and extra legroom. With the rise of travelers, there is significant competition among airlines, especially between Air India and Indigo, as these two are fighting hard to get the title of top Airline in India. We have made a comparison between these two carriers based on multiple factors.

Destinations:

Air India usually has a more extensive fleet with a blend of wide and narrow bodies, allowing it to operate Long-haul international and domestic flights. Currently, Air India serves flights to nearly 37 international destinations and 44 destinations in India, among which popular global destinations are Europe, the UK, Australia, Asia, the USA, and Canada.

Meanwhile, Indigo is considered one of India's budget airlines. It usually operates narrow fleets and mainly focuses on domestic and short-haul international flights. Specifically, it operates 320 aircraft and is well known for its modern and fuel-efficient Aircraft. Indigo flies to more than 60 domestic destinations and over 40 destinations internationally across Asia, the Middle East, and several major cities like Dubai, Bangkok, and Kuala Lumpur.

In-Flight Experience:

Air India is more advantageous as it is a full-service airline that provides a comfortable In-Flight experience, including complimentary meals with various cuisines that suit different tastes. Therefore, to enhance passengers' flying experience, they offer extra legroom, a plus point on long-haul flights. For entertainment, passengers can expect a wide selection of movies, TV shows, and games, especially on long routes.

On the other hand, Indigo is a low-cost Airline that aims to offer budgetary flights on several domestic and international routes to simplify the In-Flight experience. Thus, passengers flying Indigo must remember that there will be less legroom, no complimentary meals, and no entertainment option. Therefore, you might prefer to pay extra for snacks despite several restrictions. Airline is one of the most preferred choices as it provides efficient services and is on time.

Baggage Allowance:

Generally, Air India's baggage allowance may vary depending on the fare type and arrival/departure destination. Domestic flight passengers can check bags up to 15 to 40kg without any restrictions on the number of bags, and the luggage dimensions should not exceed 319cm. However, the weight of the carry-on bag should not be more than 7kg, and the dimensions must be 56cm*36cm*23cm.

Although Indigo Airlines has a strict baggage policy with a weight limit, the Airline charges extra for checked luggage, especially on domestic flights. Passengers are allowed to bring up to 15kg with a maximum dimension of 158cm on domestic flights, while carry-on luggage should weigh less than 7kg and not exceed 55cm,35cm, or 25cm. Travelers can also take one personal item, including a handbag or laptop, that should not weigh more than 3kg.

Extra Fees:

Air India and Indigo both charge extra fees for additional services, including advance seat selection, extra legroom, customized meals, and overweight and oversized luggage. However, Changing or canceling also comes with additional charges.
