Understanding Trump’s $5 Million ‘Gold Card’ Citizenship Program

The big news from the US this Tuesday stated that Donald Trump has replaced a visa program for foreign investors with a so-called “gold card.” Furthermore, all individuals have been allowed to have access to buy it for $5 million as a route to American citizenship. In addition to that, the President of the US also added that and said to the reporters that he will replace the “EB-5” immigrant investor visa program, which allows foreign investors of large sums of money that create or preserve US jobs to become permanent residents, with a so-called “gold card.”

“We are going to be selling a gold card,” Trump said. “We are going to be putting a price on that card of about $5 million,” he added from the Oval Office. 

Furthermore, opting for the “gold card” feature will give you green card privileges. Plus, it will be a direct route to (American) citizenship, and wealthy people will come into our country by buying this card,” Trump said, adding that details about the scheme will come out in two weeks.

Meanwhile, Trump also added that Russian oligarchs could qualify for the gold cards if they are eligible. “Yeah, possibly. Hey. I know some Russian oligarchs who are very nice people,” he said.

Donald Trump said this Tuesday that the EB-5 program is full of nonsense, and it makes it believe fraud, and it was a way to get a green card that was low price. By that, Trump added, rather than having this sort of ridiculous EB-5 program, we’re going to end the EB-5 program. Concerning that, We are going to replace it with the Trump gold card,” Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick told reporters on Tuesday.

Concerning that, the “gold card” will easily replace the existing EB-5 Immigrant Investor Visa Program because it currently allows foreign investors to obtain Green Cards if they invest at least USD 800,000 in projects located in Targeted Employment Areas (TEAs) or USD 1.8 million.

Donald Trump also said that he is going to dismiss the EB-5 system as inefficient and outdated, and meanwhile, it is creating at least ten US jobs. 

Trump said the complete details of “the gold card,” including cost and services, have yet to be disclosed. However, it plays the role of a Green Card but at a higher level of sophistication.
