The check-in procedure is straightforward if you have booked a single ticket for connecting flights. Hence, there might be two or more flights, one after another, but there are no complications even if your scheduled flight is delayed. However, suppose the traveler has booked a connecting flight separately. In that case, it is pretty tricky as you have to take care of your luggage yourself, and most importantly, sometimes you need to get a Visa for the country you're entering even if you are not leaving the Airport. Although the traveler might need to check in while boarding the first flight only if they have booked with a single Airline else, you may be required to check in for a connecting flight when you have booked it separately. However, the rules may vary based on the airline-to-airline.

Guidelines to Check-in for connecting flights:

Generally, rules for check-in for connecting flights are dynamic as it depends on the Airline to the Airline. For hassle-free boarding, you must check the terms and conditions of the specific Airline to brisk the flight check-in process. Here, we have shortlisted a few guidelines regarding Check-in for Connecting flights, whether you booked a single ticket or separately.

  • If the travelers have booked their connecting flights separately, and the first flight gets delayed for more than 3-4 hours, they can't make it to the next one. In such circumstances, the Airline is not liable to rebook you on another flight, but you must do it yourself. However, you may be entitled to delayed flight compensation.
  • If you have booked a single ticket, the Airline is responsible for buying another ticket when the first flight gets delayed for multiple reasons.
  • Therefore, Connecting flight travelers who prefer to book the ticket separately are responsible for taking care of their luggage and checking it in after every flight, which means you need to check in again; however, a connecting flight with the same Airline won't require checking in again.

Steps to Check-in for connecting flights:

Travelers can generally check in for connecting flights via the website or at the Airport; therefore, online check-in is available 24 hours before the international flight and 48 hours before the domestic flight. Please note that the passengers who have booked their connecting flight with a single Airline must check in only once else. You may be required to recheck at the stopover Airport.

  • It would be best to go to the Airline's official website or download the airline app.
  • Now browse the homepage and select the Check-in tab mentioned on the menu bar.
  • When the page is displayed on the screen, you must type the booking reference code and last name on the itinerary.
